In honour of International Women’s Day 2017, I’m sharing some more information with you about my business partner and friend, Jessica Chen-Sargent. I have had the pleasure of working with Jessica now for three years, and last fall we developed our long-term plan to better serve the community and newcomers to the Tri-Cities. (That plan will be in another post later in the year, so keep watching this space.) Jessica works as my colleague out of our Royal LePage Sterling Realty office in Port Moody.
Jessica is an incredible role model of what it means to be a successful woman in business, balancing a sometimes unpredictable REALTOR® work schedule with a busy and happy family life. She is brave, strong, and independent, having emigrated by herself from China at the age of 17 to study and earn an engineering degree from the University of Toronto.
Jessica is insightful. Although she graduated with her degree, she realized that her problem-solving and people skills would be better suited for an industry where she would serve her community more directly. Subsequently, she has been an active and dedicated REALTOR® in the Tri-Cities.
Jessica never stops learning; she attends workshops and takes courses to keep current on all things real estate, and she attends local forums to stay informed about the Tri-Cities communities. She remains active in the Coronation Park planning process, and will be presenting again this year at the Port Moody Soccer Club annual awards night on April 6th as an ongoing supporter and sponsor.
Jessica is forward-thinking. Sensing her clients’ needs for more specific information, Jessica created the first Chinese language “Buyer Beware” real estate seminar, and offered it as a free public service at Douglas College last year. She applies the experience gained and cultural understanding from her upbringing in Shenzhen, China, to the interactions she has with her Chinese-Canadian clients to serve them better than her contemporaries. Also, Jessica speaks fluent English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Whenever we conduct local open houses, I witness the advantage of this fluency as a benefit for Sellers. Through all this, Jessica is a supportive and caring mother to Cassidy and wife to Rob. I am proud and honoured to call this self-made woman my friend and colleague. On International Women’s Day, and every day, I respect and treasure my relationship with Jessica Chen-Sargent.
