On December 17th Coquitlam and Port Moody were left scrambling to deal with a major mudslide that washed out the backyard of a home in the 1000 block of Corona Crescent in Coquitlam, pushing debris down the hill to Brookmount Road in Port Moody.
A burst water main caused the mudslide which left a 50′ (approx. 15m) gully where a patio, retaining wall and several trees used to be.
Fortunately nobody was hurt in the incident, but the owners lives now teeter on the results of an investigation and assessment by structural and geo-technical engineers, and who will take responsibility for insurance.
Water services were quickly restored to the dozen or so homes affected.
Let’s hope things are settled in time for the holidays for everyone involved.
