The unfortunate consequence of a selfless act of a local “Good Samaritan”, Charlene Reaveley, is heartrending, as is the equally tragic loss of Lorraine Cruz, and the serious injuries to Lorraine’s boyfriend, Paulo Calimahin.
While the families and close friends grieve together, the entire community mourns the shocking loss of lives. Just the thought of those four children, now motherless, brings one to tears!
As sad as this story is, it has captured the hearts of so many amongst us, wanting to share their emotions and mobilize support.
Chrissy Duncan from Port Moody has reported on Facebook that this past Sunday, $12,000 was raised at the Klahanie Canoe Club to help the family pay for childcare. Thanks to Chrissy and to all those who stepped up in support for arranging this event in such short time; your efforts are awesome.
Talking of Facebook, you can catch up on the latest efforts here at the Charlene Reaveley Memorial Page. Please also pay your respects here to Lorraine Cruz.

A Walk to Remember will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 12 starting at the Port Coquitlam Rec Centre (1379 Laurier Ave.) to honour Reaveley, who taught fitness classes at rec centres around the Tri-Cities, and raise money for her family.
The event will begin with opening words from Mayor Greg Moore, followed by a warm-up led by Hyde Creek’s fitness team. The walk will be followed with some yoga stretching and reflection at 2 p.m.
Those who participate in the walk are encouraged to make a donation to the Reaveley family.
Donations to the Reaveley family can also be made to Dan Reaveley in trust at any Royal Bank branch. Anyone wanting to contribute must give the branch number (04320) and the account number (5032180) when making their donation.
There are many outpouring for the families, and in different ways. Let us know here of any other events or initiatives you’d like to share. Thank you.
